Memphis Chief Engineer
Tyler Battles is the Chief Engineer at 4U Recording in Memphis, TN. In this role, he is responsible for audio recording, mixing, and studio and equipment maintenance, as well as hiring and training staff engineers. Battles joined 4U Recording in July of 2020 as an intern shortly after graduating from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science in Recording Techniques and a minor in Entrepreneurship, and quickly worked his way up to Chief Engineer thanks to intense training from parent company Made in Memphis Entertainment (MIME). Battles is certified in Pro Tools and has five years of studio engineering experience, having previously worked as a freelance engineer and producer at various studios.
From a young age, Battles was subconsciously interested in audio and always turned everything around him into an instrument or new sound. Finding inspiration in raw and untapped things, Battles finds greater value where the average person can’t. He has brought this approach to recordings from Hip-Hop clients such as Yo Gotti, Producer D-Mac Too Bangin’, Kato 2Tymes, BMac, Stephen Jackson, JJones, White $osa, and more; R&B artists such as Brio, Gabby Green, Shayla Myricks, Markeia Milam, and Angela Blair; Gospel artists such as Anointed Gifted Singers, Derrick Rivers, Mississippi BLVD, and Mckennley Band; and others in the Alternative, Country, and Latin genres. Battles continues to explore this endless palette of sounds, and is driven by gaining deeper understanding of techniques, tonal characteristics, and sonic colors.
During his time at 4U Recording, Battles has worked with many incredible engineers from which he has gleaned a wealth of knowledge, including Walter Person, with whom he recorded a Gospel ensemble, and Ebonie Smith, who has shared her expertise with Battles as one of Atlantic Record’s Senior Engineers and Producers, conversing over advancements in the world of audio.
Battles currently resides in Memphis, TN. In his free time, he enjoys writing songs and creating beats, or listening to one of his favorite podcasts. His favorite music genres include Hip-Hop, Jazz, R&B, Blues, and Soul.
